BOROUGH NEWS 1/8/10
On January 4, 2010 the Laurel Mountain Borough Council was sworn in and reorganized at the Laughlintown Community Center at 7:30 PM. Mayor Phil Light swore in Joseph Griffith, Jr., Mary Jane Snyder, and Daniel O’Brien for four-year terms on Council. Thomas Adair, elected to a two-year term was unable to attend and will be sworn in separately by Mayor Light.
The Council was re-organized with Joe Griffith elected Chair of Council and Mary Jane Snyder as Vice-Chair of Council.
The final financial report for 2009 was Income- $35,056
Income was under budget by about $1330 and expenses were over budget by about $3226. The lower revenue was mainly due to less real estate transfer tax revenue. The higher expenses were mainly due to high snow removal costs and a culvert replacement on White Oak.
The budget will be tight again this year with 13 snow plowings already (as of January 8) and uncertainty in the real estate sales area.
Our roads are snow covered, but there has been little trouble with traction so far. We will continue to monitor the roads and apply anti-skid as soon as the need arises.
