Borough of Laurel Mountain Minutes

Regular Monthly Meeting Held March 19, 2008

Present:  Griffith, Kinsey, Snyder, Holland, Obrien, Mayor Goughnour, Solicitor Miller

Absent: N/A

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. with a quorum present.  The minutes of the February 20, 2008 meeting were approved as presented.  The following reports were submitted to council:

OLD BUSINESS:

MAYOR’S REPORT:  No old business.

MUNICIPAL SERVICES COMMITTEE:

Mr. Holland reported that he has not purchased the anti skid material yet, he hopes that the roads will hold until grading is done and that a loan can be purchased at that time.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:  no old business

SOLICITOR’S REPORT:

Council reviewed the draft sewage agreement prior to the meeting.  A discussion as held regarding several of the items contained in the agreement.  A motion was made by Mr. Griffith, seconded by Ms. Snyder, to forward a final draft to Mr. Snyder of the Sewage Authority after it is edited to reflect requested changes made by council after discussions-carried.

NEW BUSINESS:

MAYOR’S REPORT:

Mayor Goughnour reported that during the month of February the police made 31 patrols, time logged for the month was five hours six minutes, year-to date the police have logged 11 hours 24 minutes.

Mayor Goughnour read a letter from the Ligonier 250 Committee.   The letter invited residents of Laurel Mountain Borough to join in the celebration.  The kick off of the celebration will be held June 27-29.

MUNICIPAL SERVICES COMMITTEE:

Ligonier Township will hold a “dumpster day” from 9am Noon, Saturday, April 19.  Laurel Mountain Borough residents will be permitted to participate; donations will be solicited at the site.

Mrs. Kinsey reported that the borough was not able to obtain funding from the county through its Dirt and Gravel Road Projects for 2008.

Mr. Holland has prepared detailed specifications and a map indicating various areas requiring work and the specific type of work to be performed in various areas of the borough.  After discussion and minor modifications including work completion date, council approved the specifications.  Mr. Holland will solicit bids for this road maintenance.  Bids will be presented at the April 15 meeting.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:  None

OTHER:

Mr. Griffith reported that he has contact several engineering firms that might be able to provide an engineering study on ways the borough may be able to increase water pressure. 

 

A motion was made by Ms. Snyder, seconded by Mr. Griffith to place an advertisement in the WCBA Annual Meeting Program at a cost of $45.00 – carried.
